Eboli

Carlo Levi's account of his confinement in Lucania during the forties by the fascist government of Italy provides the name for this series.

The title of his book - Christ Stopped At Eboli.

In it he describes a mind-set in which the relation between cause and effect follows mythic dictates of subconscious process, where reason has no precedence, and where boundaries between human, animal, and spirit are tentative and mutable. These paintings are oil on masonite panel.
