My ideal housemate

$900/mo + util. Adjusted on annual basis $200. incl heat, electric, cable, phone for normal usage. (heat at 58/68, basic cable)

About me 

I have this house in Wilmot, and also a Cambridge apartment. My business is woodworking, but I come to that from art (painting and sculpture) and I also play guitar (blues, jazz) some. I teach drawing at the BAC and have customers all over. I enjoy conversation, languages, and people and I like to have them around, but I also need lots of quiet time to focus on my own interests.

Until this year a lot of my attention went into taking care of my father.  Because of that he was able to die at home. Now I find myself alone, and in many ways, starting again.   It is very important to me to keep the house, the workshop, and studio, and to keep them in top condition. The rent would be a big help, as business is down, but it would also be good to have someone here while I’m away.  So far my experience with roommates has been good.  I’ve found that it can work well with the right person. When there are problems, I have learned that a little tolerance and some thoughtful communication can go a long way. Nonetheless, because I need to maintain a quiet, clean, and sane environment, I will be particular about who I have here. 

The house

There are three furnished rooms and a bath on the second floor. I remodeled the bathroom 3 or 4 years ago.  I could install self contained kitchen unit if it seemed appropriate, but for now I would plan to share the kitchen, which I keep clean. I put things away and do not appreciate clutter of any kind.

The environment here would be great for someone who needs a quiet, secure place in which to concentrate, write, listen to their inner voice, and yet not be so remote as to feel really isolated. The post office is 5 minutes away, and the town of New London is 15 minutes. Dartmouth is about 45 minutes. Ditto Concord. Cambridge is only 120 minutes (if you obey the limit).

Pets

No dogs, a cat, maybe. We used to have a cat.  I like cats, but I don’t need the responsibility.
